Introduction
Binary Blue is a fully WP 2.5 compliant, heavily AJAX enhanced WordPress theme. Its ZIP package contains more than a dozen different schemes, among them the fabulous True Blue style, which is an improved port of the style with the same name originally created by Steve Lam and included with his explicit permission.
Binary Blue contains a fully degradable AJAX enhanced Paged Comments function, which is sort of world exclusive at the current point of time, as there’s no other WordPress plugin or theme yet, which would support such a feature.
Each of the AJAX enhanced features degrade automatically and gracefully if a visitor with a non-javascript browser visits the blog; the functionality then defaults automatically to the default behaviour of any common theme.
Binary Blue is not only a “simple” theme but a complete theme suite resp. sort of a theme platform, which enables you as the user to configure lots of options, so you can customize the complete theme without the need to change a single line of HTML or even PHP code.

This release is a pure bugfix release which fixes the incompiances which have been introduced by the idiots of the WP TEAM (they just did not think about all the themes and plugins which made use of parts of the DB structure) when they introduced WordPress 2.3. Concerning Binary Blue, this affects the archives page and the asides configuration only. So if you don’t use either feature, you may stills tick to the 1.4.1 release, but for everybody else the bugfix release is strongly recommanded. I won’t answer any help requests any longer which concern these issues.

Ich habe meine HP jetzt komplett auf WordPress umgestellt und bin dabei auf Ihr angebotenes Theme BinaryBlue gestoßen. Ich war so beeindruckt, dass ich es gleich als Basisdesign für meine HP benutzt habe. Da ich Neuling bei PHP-Seiten bin und mich Schritt für Schritt dieser Programmiersprache annähere, war mir Ihre Vorlage sehr hilfreich. Vielen Dank! Allerdings scheinen bei mir noch einige Bestandteile Ihres Themes nicht zu funktionieren, was sicherlich auf Fehlbedienung meinerseits zurückzuführen ist. Solle es Ihnen mal zeitlich möglich sein, meine HP zu besuchen, könnten Sie mir vielleicht einige Tipps geben. Hier einige meiner Fragen:
- wie binde ich ein von mir gestaltetes Banner in den header ein, ohne den Quellcode zu beschädigen?
- wie funktioniert die Funktion der “Hilfe- oder Beschreibungs-Popups” auf ihrer Page? (bspw. im comment von Robert vom 05.10., Nr. 366) Geht das auch bei Verwendung Ihres Themes? Wie muss ich das einbinden?

as far as I remember there is only ONE reference to the category table - in the file “page-archives.php”, which is all but important to Binary Blue
If you want to fix the query which doesn’t work any longer with WP 2.3, just replace the third SQL query in that file with the one stated below:
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM $wpdb->term_taxonomy WHERE taxonomy=’category’
This is all you’d have to fix, unless you did not yet fix the comment quicktags issue introduced by WP 2.2.

Since BB uses the old category table, it’s probably incompatible with WP 2.3. Is the fix doable, or too complex?

Nachtrag Habe grad deinen Kommentar aus dem Juli betreffs der Barrierefreiheit von BB gesehen und möchte dir noch mal nachdrücklich sagen wie gut es ist, dass BB eben barrierefrei ist, denn ich z.B. bin blind und begrüße jede barrierefreie Software, grade im Webdesign, wo viele CMS da ja nur unbefriedigende Lösungen bieten und wp mich als blog-und kleines CMS als erstes wirklich überzeugt hat.

Binary Blue ist weitgehend kompatibel mit WP 2.3 - siehste ja hier auf dem Blog schon, da ich ca. im Wochenrythmus meine WP-Version auf den aktuellsten Entwicklerstand bringe.
Einzige Ausnahme stellt (aber schon seit WP 2.2) der Quicktags-Bug der Kommentarfunktion dar, was die Jungs von WP ja versaut haben - dafür findeste aber den Fix entweder hier in den Kommentaren oder im Supportforum.

hi - ich nutze und schätze sehr das bb-plugin und möchte auch gern die frage klären, ob und unter welchen voraussetzungen es mit wp 2.3 zusammenläuft - und falls nicht, ob es ein fix geben wird, ein alternatives theme (obwohl mir das leid täte) -leider kann ich nur sehr begrenzt aufgrund mangelnder kenntnisvon hand irgendwo eingreifen, muss das update auf 2.3 aber irgendwann die nächste zeit machen, wegen der sicherheitslücken…
wäre über aufklärung jeglicherseits dankbar

Thanks for making the theme available, it should work great for a blog I’m in the process of setting up. I was having trouble finding a theme I liked that had widgets support, but wasn’t too cluttered. I’ll be sure to make a donation once I get things up and running.

just use Sidebar Widgets and the category widget, then there should not be any problem. BB does not directly request any WordPress database tables but always uses API functions instead.
@walle: ja, die war eigentlich schon quasi fertig, fehlten aber noch die passenden neuen schemes. da mittlerweile aber wieder viel zeit ins land gezogen ist und sich auch auf seiten WPs eine menge getan hat, halte ich einen dicken sprung und ein direkt auf WP 2.3 abgestimmtes package für sinnvoller.
