Seit gestern bestand auf meinem Blog hier ein sehr seltsames Performance-Problem, welches zu lösen mich nun sehr viel Zeit und Nerven gekostet hat. Aus unerfindlichen Gründen bekamen Firefox-User nämlich kaum noch eine Seite zu Gesicht, sondern in den meisten Fällen einen Timeout, und InternetExplodierer-Nutzer konnten zwar die meisten Seiten ansurfen, jedoch fand der Ladevorgang endlos lange kein Ende, ohne daß ein Grund dafür ersichtlich wurde. Ich hatte zunächst die Datenbank im Visier, doch sämtliche anderen datenbankbasierten Sites von mir hatten dieses Problem nicht, ergo mußte es irgendwo im Umfeld von WordPress selbst zu suchen sein. Ich habe den heutigen Abend mal wieder dazu genutzt etwas Software-Customization zu betreiben. Mein heutiges “Opfer” war - ebenfalls wieder einmal - die Forensoftware phpBB, die ich unter anderem auch hier auf dieser Site fürs Support-Forum von Binary Blue benutze, aber beispielsweise auch im Bereich meines Counterdienstes. Warum das Ganze? Pretty easy - in den letzten Tagen ist es dem Spammer-Gesocks offenbar gelungen ihre Registrierungsparser für phpBB um die korrekte Antwort auf die dämliche Frage “are you human?” zu ergänzen - mit der Folge, dass dieses erschießenswerte Gesindel es nicht nur nach langer Zeit erstmalig wieder über die Registrierungshürde geschafft hat, sondern durch automatisiertes Parsen der Freischaltungsemails ihre “Accounts” sogar aktivieren konnten, um dann mit dem Abseiern ihrer hirnverbrannten “Nachrichten” … Kompletten Post lesen Post schließen Post schließen

I’ve been informed a few days ago that the Paged Comments feature in BB generally works wonderful but has one drawback - the permalinks for the comments don’t point to the appropriate comment page. Neither do the comments links on the dashboard (admin panel) nor the list that is generated through the popular Brian’s Latest Comments plugin. So I sat down this evening, once I was back home from the office, to analyzie the possibility to fix these drawbacks, and I was, generally speaking, pretty successful ;). I have published the groundbreaking 1.1.0 release of the popular Binary Blue theme suite just a couple of minutes ago. This release incorporates two quantum leaps, speaking of blog customization. First, I have fully integrated the latest spinoff of the famous Lightbox JS scripts - the Lightbox JS 2.0 release by Lokesh Dhakar from Huddletogether. Second, and this is the most important part, I have integrated full Sidebar Widgets support into the theme suite. This includes about a dozen different Binary Blue specific widgets, among them degradable AJAX Livesearch, an early release of a configurable Syndication/Feed box and an authorinfo box. Just a few hours ago I learned to know through wordpress.com, that the great side bar widgets facility they have published at their blog service platform the other days is now available as a separate and free plugin.
