It seems as if comment spammers are about to proceed to the next level. Obviously SpamKarma2 has evolved to be a serious threat to their kind, and more and more WordPress based bloggers start using it as well as putting comments from first time commenters into the moderation queue automatically.
For a couple of days I encounter a new kind of comment spam - especially the days of my recent business trip were very “productive” in this way. Fortunate comment spammers tried to use these days to submit seemingly senseful comments like “looks nice” or “great stuff” to make it through my moderation queue. If they were successful, this would have resulted in the effect that comments submitted by them later on would have been published automatically on a Spamkarma2 enhanced WordPress installation with a default configuration.
Luckily this isn’t the case for my blog
- I utilize several Spamkarma2 plugins like the Akismet addon or the moderation queue addon, so I was able to take a closer look at this new spamming process. So here’s my strong advice:
Don’t use the default configuration for your Spamkarma2 plugin but a customized one instead, and make use of the additional plugins that are available for SK2 as well! Your true and honest visitors will be thankful for that!

I’ve visited Your site for the first time and liked it in one moment. Spam on my WP sites diving me crazy, so I was thinking about digging Drupal to shift to it. SpamKarma2 looks like a perfect solution for me and my WP sites. Thanks for tips - will implement it soon and give You an info.

well, as stated in the post above you should almost mandatorily install the great Spamkarma2 plugin for WordPress. Additionally I’d advise to get the Akismet addon for Spamkarma2 as well. Keep in mind that you need a wordpress.com account for Akismet.
The default settings are pretty good, so I’d suggest to start with them and to tweak them only if this doesn’t already stop the spam on your blog.
