I just ported the Binary Blue specific Sidebar Widget, which adds full support for Brian’s Latest Comments, into a general purpose Sidebar Widget.

Remember that the use of this Widget still requires the installed and activated Brian’s Latest Comments Plugin!

Installation Instructions

  1. Make sure that you have installed and activated Brian’s Latest Comments Plugin (it’s a mandatory requirement for this widget to work!)
  2. Download and expand this zipfile to an empty directory of your liking
  3. Copy the file called “widget_blc_latestcomments.php” from the directory where you’ve expanded the zip file to your wp-content/plugins/widgets directory on your webserver of your WordPress installation
  4. Activate the Widget in your admin panel on the Plugins submenu
  5. Switch to your Presentation/Sidebar Widgets submenu, drag-n-drop the “BLC Latest Comments” Widget to your sidebar and open the Widget’s options panel, where you can tweak the different settings
  6. Save your Sidebar Widgets configuration
  7. Have Fun!

Update:
I’ve published a patched version of the plugin that is neccessary to make use of the widget, to add full AJAX Paged Comments support for it. The Paged Comments support integrates seemlessly with the widget, so I’d strongly advise to use the patched version as long as you’re using Binary Blue at the same time ;)

sorry, not a problem of the widget but of the BLC plugin itself. The widget just takes the color codes you configure in the widget’s setup and forwards them plainly to the original BLC function. If anything goes worng there, the culprit is clearly the BLC code, not the widget.

Anyways, thanks for mentioning this issue, so others may be warned to rely on a more current release of brians latest comments.

I like this plugin, but why do the color-codes not work correctly?

Ideen? Dankeschön :)

Thanks, Gero, your fix has worked perfectly for me :)

The only solution I found for the “clamp-error” is to open brianslatestcomments.php and put the clamp function in line 27 above the function blc_latest_comments. just outside the loop. this still works for me.

Nope, this has got me stumped! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, after upgrading to WP2.5 the widget control errors out. The widget and original plugin still functions but it is not displayed correctly when active on the widgets page in the dashboard.

I will try and fix it and let you know.

    Error as below:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare clamp() (previously declared in /..**../plugins/brianslatestcomments.php:27) in /..**../plugins/brianslatestcomments.php on line 27
